Alan's Tennis Event
David Lloyd Renfrew 5th May 2009

In 2003 after major surgery and chemotherapy I survived oseophageal cancer. I'm fortunate to have pulled through it and to be here today.

I've been actively involved in tennis all my life as a player and now as a coach. It kept me fit. Fit enough to pull through being treated for cancer. And fit enough to enjoy life now.

It's been my aim for a long time to hold a Tennis Charity Day to raise funds to fight this insidious disease amongst all age groups and to provide supportand advice for carers and patients alike.

Alan's Cancer Event on 5 May 2009 is about having fun for a serious purpose ? to raise funds and awareness for OCHRE (my cancer charity),the Teenage Cancer Charity and The Maggies Centres.

Have a fun day and please help us raise funds to fight this terrible disease.

The Event

The event will involve non-stop doubles tennis on the 6 outdoor courts at David Lloyds, Renfrew on 5th May 2009 The event starts at 8.00am and finishes around 9.00pm with each court being booked for an hour. It's hoped that, if possible each player will manage to raise sponsorship in the region of £100 or more.

We're all hoping to make this a charity event to remember and that a few well known personalities might drop in and participate. In the afternoon there'll be an exhibition doubles involving 4 nationally ranked players.

On the day it will be possible to buy tennis balls engraved with the charities logos as a momento of the occasion for £1 each. All proceeds will go to the 3 charities involved.

Everyone will be entitled to use the David Lloyd facilities for the day. So if you can't play please come along and show your support.
